  Project Updates

On October 17, 2000 the City sponsored a livable community guidelines workshop to review livable community design principles and identify character of special character the design guidelines should reflect.

The City of Watsonville has initiated an effort to establish design guidelines for infill housing and new subdivisions. The guidelines are to support the community's emphasis on high quality neighborhood and architectural design while meeting policy objectives for providing housing for existing and future residents.

In March 2000, the City sponsored a community charrette to examine various features for design and neighborhood planning. In addition, the Local Government Commission presented a preference survey to over 100 Watsonville residents. Key findings from the preference survey results emphasized the desirability of the following features in residential design:

  • Trees
  • Good architecture
  • Landscaping
  • Wide sidewalks
  • Front porch
  • No cars/garage in back
  • Views
