Youth, Family, Health and Seniors Strategies Workshop

July 24, 1999 Workshop

On July 24, 1999 citizens and advisory boards and commissions met to discuss strategies to improve the community as a place for families, young people and seniors.

Workshop Objectives:

Summary of Key Concepts:

One of the most important findings to emerge from the July 24 workshop was the need for partnerships. Teamwork among nonprofits, the City, businesses, the school district, faith organizations and adjacent cities and the County is required for success of many of the activities that benefit Union City's families, youth and seniors.

Within many of the proposed strategies, the City played a crucial role as a provider of information, partnership-maker, and funder. Information summarizing social and community services on the City web site, newsletters and published inventories could be provided by the City. The City could also proactively build coalitions of partners to join in on solving social and quality of life challenges. And, the City could provide funding or assist in writing grants that can be leveraged by other partners.

Planning Teams:

The workshop participants worked as members of four planning teams that identified specific projects and programs, partnerships and the role of the City in implementation of their strategies. They identified strategies for youth, seniors and families.
