Union City, California

General Plan Update

Framework for Prosperity

June 1, 2000 Workshop

On June 1, 2000 over 20 people participated in a workshop to establish features for an overall planning framework for Union City's general planning efforts. Sponsored by the Planning Commission, the workshop allowed participants to identify how Union City can be a prosperous and compassionate city; how to enhance existing and create new places; and how to support these choices with community services and preparation.

Planning Team Features:

Working in teams, participants established overarching planning objectives that stressed the development of community facilities for families and youth. Union Landing, inter-modal station, sports and recreation facilities, and Kennedy Park were identified as important places to be featured in Union City's future. A performing arts/cultural center and childcare centers were also mentioned as high priority places.
