Rancho Cordova

Date: March 9, 2000

On March 9 over 20 people participated in a community workshop at the Rancho Cordova branch library to have input into the library master planning process. There were participants only from the Rancho Cordova branch. They worked as members of two planning teams. The teams mapped their communities and the role of their libraries, imagined the type of services and place the library would be in 20 years, identified their immediate needs, and potential community partners.

Workshop Summary

The participants consider their branch library difficult to walk to and would be inadequate for the projected population and redevelopment of land in and around Mather. They felt their library should be known for its children's and senior services. And, there is a potential need for a technology center. In the next five years the library will need more funding for hours, computers and planning for a possible second library. Immediate needs included added hours, staff and programs for young adults. In addition, the library should add "Cyber Patrol" software to the computers in the children's section. Their partnerships for their libraries included the media, schools, chamber of commerce, and service clubs.
